Dr Paoloni is a Consultant Anaesthetist based in Bristol. She was elected the first woman President of HCSA in 2019, having previously served for three years as chair of the Executive.

Stuart Lythgoe

Director of Operations

Stuart served in the British Army for 23 years before retiring in 2016. He undertook various project and programme management roles before joining NHS England and NHS Improvement as a change and programme delivery manager in 2018. Stuart started his employment with HCSA in January 2020.

Dr Paul Donaldson

General Secretary

Dr Paul Donaldson was a consultant microbiologist for over 20 years until he left the NHS in April 2020. He had been elected to Council in 2008 and joined the Executive as an Honorary Secretary in 2014. In addition to his medical qualifications, he also has a diploma in employment law. He was elected as General Secretary of the HCSA in March 2020.

Jennifer Bremner

National Officer

Jennie began work for the HCSA in July 2015. She has worked for the trade union movement for 26 years and was Assistant General Secretary for Unite the Union with responsibility for the Health Sector. She also worked for the BMA for a period of time supporting and advising hospital doctors, associate specialists and consultants, which gives her a broad spectrum of experience to draw on and utilise in her role with the HCSA as National Officer covering North-West England, Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

Farah Cheema

National Officer

Farah represents members in West London and South Central England as well as Cambridge. Her specialism is employment law, having worked in this area for many years, including for a City firm, an employment law consultancy, and as a volunteer at the Free Representation unit, where she represented claimants at tribunal. She was an employment adviser at the BMA for nearly three years.

Stuart Denness

National Officer

Stuart is our National Officer for South London and the South Coast. He has over 25 years’ experience within trade unions and dealing with members’ issues, both for GMB and as a senior advocate for Unite, and has wide experience assisting members with disciplinary matters, grievances and appeals at all levels. He has employment law qualifications gained at Oxford and the Institution of Legal Executives.

Rob Quick

National Officer

Rob has worked for the HCSA since 2014 and now covers members in the North of England (including Yorkshire and Humber and the North East and Liverpool). Rob has previously worked as a senior Regional and National official with healthcare unions and returned to the NHS to work in learning and development. He most recently worked as HR Director in a number of Trusts in England. He is an experienced and accomplished negotiator and advocate, a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and a keen Liverpool supporter.

Pauline Paxton

National Officer

Pauline started at the HCSA in July 2020. She comes from a trade union background with more than 20 years experience. She most recently worked for the BMA in Scotland.

Sharon George

Corporate Affairs Manager

Sharon is the HCSA Corporate Affairs Manager, and is one of our longest standing members of staff - and now an honorary HCSA member after 25 years of service. As well as having responsibility for the day to day running of the office, she also supports the executive team and keeps everyone on track.

Timothy Brooks

Tim joined the HSCA in January 2020 and covers the south-west. He has a background in trade unions and education.

Robert Crosby

National Officer

Robert joined HCSA in August 2020 and works with our members across the Midlands. His experience of working in trade unions spans a period of 28 years and his particular area of interest is employment law. Prior to joining HCSA, he worked as a Regional Officer for the National Education Union and one of its previous incarnations, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, helping to represent their members across the East Midlands.
