ACCEA suspends 2020 National CEAs process

The Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA), the awarding body for National CEAs, has today confirmed that it has suspended the application process for the 2020 award round following joint lobbying by HCSA, the BMA and employer bodies.

Announcing the decision today, the ACCEA acknowledged that the application process and sign-off by organisations and employers "may be at the expense of clinical priorities" given the "increasing impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on all NHS staff."

Further details of the contingency scheme, and the statius of those whose awards expire in April, are expected next week following discussions with ministers.

An announcement on the Local CEAs scheme is also expected shortly.
