HCSA: PHE guidelines insufficient to protect hospital workers

HCSA's new Council met virtually last night to discuss the Association's response to Covid-19.

It was agreed that Public Health England's current PPE guidelines are insufficient and to press for greater protection on behalf of our members and colleagues in hospitals:

  1. The current definition of situations requiring the full FFP3 are insufficient, even with the new ENT guidance having been adopted by Public Health England.
  2. That mounting evidence around transmission requires that all patients should now be considered as potentially Covid-19 positive whether symptomatic or not, and therefore that the Italian policy of facemasks in all hospital areas must now be echoed in the UK.

HCSA will now take steps to press for action on both these issues and a range of other concerns raised by members.
