VACANCIES
There is one vacancy for the reserved seat of Resident Doctor Executive Member.
DESCRIPTION
The Resident Doctor Executive Member has a special role on the National Executive to represent and advocate for their peers.
They may also be asked to represent and promote HCSA in relevant forums. The role will involve ensuring that they maintain communication with HCSA members in Resident Doctor grades and help to build and recruit the Union’s Resident Doctor membership, as well as helping the Union to properly reflect their needs and priorities nationally.
National Executive members collectively form the national leadership of the Union and together form the senior decision-making body between General Meetings.
FORMAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The role and responsibilities of the Resident Doctor Executive Member include:
- Collective responsibility for:
- Agreeing the mission and values of the Union
- Setting the strategic vision and overall direction of strategy and policy
- Developing policy for the Union, within the terms set by the General Meeting
- Stewardship – ensuring that statutory obligations are undertaken (such as returns/annual accounts) and overseeing that resources are appropriately deployed
- Scrutiny
- Ensuring that the strategic plan is implemented
- Executive oversight of the work of the General Secretary and staff
- Continual self-review
- Consulting and representing the views of Resident Doctor members.
- Representing the Union to external organisations, on public bodies and in the media, when called upon to do so (particularly with regard to issues related to the role of Resident Doctors)
- Attending meetings of the National Executive Committee.
- Attending General Meetings, including the AGM.
TERM IN OFFICE
The role of the Resident Doctor Executive Member is a crucial one. It is an elected position with a term of two years, after which members are eligible for re-election.
In recognition of the importance of the role, an Executive Member who fails to attend three consecutive Executive Committee meetings without adequate reason will be required to relinquish their office, triggering a by-election.
