HCSA IS CHANGING

As the only trade union dedicated solely to hospital doctors we’re proud of the role we play in supporting our members every day. We’ve also grown in influence nationally.

However, in an ever-changing NHS landscape we need to keep evolving to ensure we continue to deliver for hospital doctors.

That is why HCSA commissioned an external strategic review. It has now delivered a series of recommendations which this year’s AGM endorsed.

This strategic plan means a shift in the way we, as hospital doctors, organise ourselves, and changes in the way HCSA is structured too.

We need members to join us in steering the Union as we get on with the task of building a new HCSA.

WHAT ARE THE CHANGES?

HCSA delivers exceptional personalised support for members and we don’t intend to change that.

However, we aspire to do even better for the profession.

Changes to our elected structure are designed to do just that – and give you as a member greater power and influence within our organisation and in your working lives.

We’re establishing a new streamlined Executive Committee of doctors drawn from 9 new Districts, a directly elected President for the first time, and reserved seats for Resident and SAS doctors.

Each of the Districts will be tasked with developing a plan to build greater local links between HCSA members and future members. Together with staff, the aim is to nurture a new network of HCSA branches which support hospital doctors to respond to challenges locally and nationally.

About the roles

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Anyone who feels you have what it takes to work with your union to build a stronger force to advocate for hospital doctors.

HCSA is seeking enthusiastic and passionate members to join our leadership team as we launch a new strategic approach.

While the Executive has an important governance role overseeing the business of the association on a day-to-day basis on behalf of HCSA members, these roles will mean more than simply attending monthly meetings.

Each of them has an important part to in renewing the Union, whether that be District members working with staff to develop branch networks, or Resident and SAS Executive Members working to deliver for these grades.
