HCSA general secretary Eddie Saville explains why the association has chosen the campaign slogan ‘In favour of a safe seven-day service’
Major changes are being proposed to the Consultants’ Contract that will have big implications for the profession in years to come.
The HCSA will be pressing hard to ensure that any changes agreed will deliver a safe seven-day service – a position that we will be emphasising publicly and in discussions with employers and the government.
A sensible structure to boost retention and recruitment, the protection of patient safety and sufficient resources to meet the aspiration for an extension of services are all key elements in achieving this aim.
We believe it is essential that all Hospital Doctors are informed and involved on this fundamental issue.
Our team of officers will be holding a series of hospital forums to brief members and non-members on the current proposals and to hear your views. If you would like your hospital to be among them, please contact our Overton office by phone on 01256 771 777 or by email.
We have also produced two new resources for members, a quick guide to the DDRB observations and a more in-depth policy document which gives greater detail both on the arguments being made by policy-makers and the HCSA’s opinion on those positions.
The HCSA remains resolute in its aim to influence the direction of policy in the best interests of our profession and patient care.
We will continue to update members in coming weeks.
