The Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) is the largest TUC-affiliated trade union and professional association exclusively representing hospital consultants, specialists and doctors in training. An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent Policy Officer to work with our campaigns and communications team. You will be playing a major role in policy, analysis and research and be joining a team of highly skilled and motivated officers dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of HCSA members at work.

This is an exciting time for the HCSA with new challenges on our horizon, a growing membership and a leadership team eager to gain more influence, expand our presence and continue to improve the service we provide to our members.

We are looking for someone with strong research and analysis skills, who is also able to follow through the process with respect to policy development.

The successful candidate will be agile in their approach, with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritise work, often at very short notice.

You have the option of being based at home, which will require a disciplined and methodical approach to managing workload.

You will be experienced in writing for different audiences and in influencing and campaigning, with excellent written skills including speechwriting, writing briefings and Government consultation responses, and adept at developing policy from research and member engagement.

You will have knowledge of policy and public affairs at UK level, and a specific knowledge and understanding of current policy trends within the health and hospitals sector is desirable.

You will have the confidence to engage and build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including those at senior level. With excellent project management skills, you will work well on your own initiative and as part of a team.

You will need good interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Strong oral communication skills and good analytical skills are also vital.

This is a great opportunity to join an enthusiastic organisation as we prepare for our next period of growth.
