HCSA - the hospital doctors' union is the largest TUC-affiliated trade union and professional association exclusively representing hospital doctors of all grades.
HCSA’s National Officers play a major role in undertaking case work, organising and supporting members in Hospitals et cetera, advancing recognition and conducting local negotiations at NHS Health Board/Trust level, enhancing the profile of our organisation, and conducting recruitment and organising campaigns. You will be joining a team of highly skilled and motivated officers dedicated to representing, protecting and promoting the interests of members.
The Role
To organise, strengthen and secure the active presence of the HCSA in Hospitals, NHS Hospital services/staffs Policy making forums, joint Hospital Management / Staff Side negotiating and consultation bodies, and Staff Side Forums in which HCSA members have/ should have a recognised voice. Provide individual and collective representation for members appearing before Health Board/Trust enquiries/hearings/panels such as nonclinical disciplinary procedures, grievance procedures, job plan and appeals. Support members in redundancy, TUPE and restructuring of service issues and be a powerful advocate for members in the workplace. Developing and implementing local initiatives to recruit new members and increase the density of our local hospital representative network.
The Person
You will have an understanding of the industrial relations environment and workplace advocacy and have a good track record of achievement in this area. Knowledge of the health service would be an advantage but is not essential. You will possess good leadership and motivational skills and an ability to influence people at all levels. The ability to work on your own initiative yet also as part of a committed team is essential
An appreciation of diversity issues impacting upon hospital health care (in particular, those associated with gender and ethnicity) would be an advantage.

Contracted hours: 35 hours - Five days per week
Contract Type: Permanent
Work base Location: Home
It is likely that the successful candidate will live in the East or West Midlands but must expect to provide occasional support to colleagues elsewhere in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This is a newly established post that will provide a great opportunity to join an enthusiastic organisation as we undertake our next period of growth and development.
It is likely that the successful candidate will live in Scotland but must expect to make frequent trips to NI and provide occasional support to colleagues in the North of England

Contracted hours: 14 to 21 hours – two to three days per week

The ability to speak Welsh would also be an advantage.
It is likely that the successful candidate will live and work in Wales but must expect to provide occasional support to colleagues in England; in particular, the Midlands.
