Vacancy - Communications Assistant (P/T fixed term)

HCSA - the hospital doctors' union is seeking to recruit a Communications Assistant on a short-term contract to assist our established Communications and Policy team with its Covid-19 response.

Working from home under the guidance of the Web and Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be expected to draft communications for internal and external audiences, contribute to our online and social media engagement, and horizon scan the medical, policy and political landscape to ensure HCSA is able to intervene rapidly and effectively on matters affecting its members. They may from time to time be asked to act as a contact point to redirect incoming queries from media and other stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have some prior experience producing written communications for different stakeholders, contributing to websites and using social media platforms. They will need to be a self-starter who can work well independently but does so effectively as part of a wider team with common objectives. Ideally they will have had some experience working in a communications role.

An ability to identify the primary concerns of hospital doctors within the Covid-19 pandemic is essential, and an understanding of the non-Covid issues and landscape affecting hospital doctors is desirable.

This is a fixed-term post for three months, subject to one month's probation. While the post is a 14 hours a week role, the successful candidate will need to be able to adopt a flexible approach to their working pattern, which will at times be driven by news and policy developments.
